Bidikmisi Student Dedication in Remote Area

UNAIR NEWS – Limitation, once again, did not stop good intention to always share and serve others. As what has been done by students from Bidikmisi program, even though they are from insufficient family themselves, as an organization of Bidikmisi (AUBMO) from UNAIR, they held a social service event in Gegunung of Mulyoagung Village, Singgahan Subdistrict of Tuban. The area is 40 km south from the city center.

The social service event lasted for four days, from January 17 to January 20, 2016. Education, health, farming, religion, arts and sports were the sectors of the program.
On the first day, there was a counselling event on the importance of initial detection of dengue fever (DBD) and diarrhea and vomiting, and also immunization event. The team also visit TPQ and taught there. The activity was done in order to pep up the TPQ there.

Interviewed by UNAIR NEWS reporter on site, Ikhwanun Mudhofir Hariri, the demissioner head of AUBMO , stated that other than provide service in the community, this activity themed social service laboratory for Bidikmisi students.

“We as Bidikmisi students are from the community, so it is normal for us to learn in the community,” he said.

Wildan Haffata Yahfitu Zahra,the head of the committee, said that Gegunung hamlet was chosen because of some considerations. It was located remotely far from the main road, the education of the people was also low, the poor economic condition, and the limited health facility, the hamlet with 300 families was also a crime ridden area.

“Some authorities have noticed us, at least our coming can change the people’s mindset. Besides, I also hoped this activity can be the bridge between the locals and its government,” he said.

Similar with the head of the social service, Eka, 26, the inhabitant of Gegunung hamlet who is also the in the local mother and kids health service station (posyandu), hoped that there are changes after the social service.

“What’s important is, after the students go back to Surabaya, there are things we can continue here,” he said. (*)
