UNAIR NEWS – Satria Airlangga has made another great achievement. Inspite of being freshmen, essay team of Communication Science Study Program FISIP UNAIR succeeded in taking the first place at Happysmart Competition with Happyfresh, a competition held by Happyfresh at German House (Wisma Jerman) on November 28, 2015. Essay competition for university students in Surabaya focused on the topic of solutions to urban issues of Surabaya.
“In the competition, we were the only freshmen. Our competitions were mostly in their seventh or last semester. When we got into the room, it was obvious that we were freshmen. But we were still pretty confidence,” the head of the essay team, Bayu Mahardika, said.
With their essay “Communal Waste Water Processing Installation (IPAL)”, Bayu with his four partners, Galih Priambodo, Anas Nur Fadhilah, Nanik Nadyni, and Sintya Tifani Sari, designed a sanitation program which overcomes water pollution problem in Surabaya, especially on excrement directly channeled to rivers. With the program, centralized waste water will be processed many times to be clean water. Then it will be channeled to the rivers with little risk of polluting the rivers.
In order to design their program, Bayu and his team conducted surveys and collected data on water processing in Surabaya. They traced the rivers and compiled the data from Regional Water Company (PDAM) Surabaya. After analyzing the data, the team believed that Communal Waste Water Processing Installation(IPAL) was the solution to sanitary problems in the rivers of Surabaya. (has/nui)
