UNAIR NEWS – There is a vast park and a lake (conservation pond) in front of the Management Office in Campus C Universitas Airlangga. Every day, people visit them to go for a stroll, go jogging or even only for a few snapshots of themselves.

There are lots of reasons why this park and the lake become favorite spots. They are favorite not only for the students and employees of the university, but also for the community around the campus in Mulyorejo. Not only the young, the adults also like them. Many of them take their children there.

Three of many reasons for their attractions are as follows:

1. Jogging area with fresh air

Try to visit this place in the morning and in the afternoon. It is surely swarmed with people having a stroll or going jogging. The shady trees around the park produce great oxygen level. It is perfect for doing exercise or playing sports. Sometimes at weekends, some fitness groups come and use the pot to stretch and shape muscles. One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight… Move right and left…

2. Playing with animals

What else do you need? The lake is full of fish. It’s also swans’ swimming spot. On Sunday, December 13, there was Great Fish Harvest event which also marked the end of 61st Unair Dies Natalis celebration. From the two-hectare conservation pond, 4 metric tons of fish was harvested.

The fish was shared among the civitas academica and general public. Unair rector M. Nasih said that the event was to express Unair’s gratitude. “Our achievements were also from communities’ contribution. So, what we have, we shared to people,” the rector said.

In the same occasion, Kustiawan Tri Pursetyo, S.Pi, M.Vet, a lecturer of Unair from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) said that the fish harvest event will be held every other year. After the harvest, new seeds of fish will be thrown into the pond by FPK students. Kustiawan also stated that the event was held to encourage people to eat more fish.

If the seed grows, visitors can feed the fish while they sit by the pond. But beware of the swans as they are likely to peck you.

3. Symbolic spots for snapshots

At least there are three spots we can use for photo background of the site. They all show the great symbol of Unair. You could say that they act as the campus landmarks.

First spot is the bridge over the lake. It is very artistic and attractive. It is indeed a great spot for snapshots. If you are the students or students from other universities, you would not get the sense of being there before you took a few snapshots on the bridge. Few snapshots there with friends could be beautiful memories in the next five or ten years. Make sure you keep the photos on your social media accounts.

Second spot is in front of the Management Office. There is a huge name sign of Universitas Airlangga. Most students, who have had their pictures taken for their diplomas, usually take pictures with the sign on the top of the building in the background. They do that for remembrance of being there, especially if they study at Campus A or B.

The third spot is by the long wall with “Universitas Airlangga Kampus C Mulyorejo Surabaya” located in the southwest of Management Office. It is at the corner of the park, near the main street. Other than that name sign, there is a statue as in Unair logo. Yes, it’s the same logo as in front covers of students’ paper.
