FK UNAIR Provides Training on POCT Device Quality Control

UNAIR NEWS – Clinical Pathology Department Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) in collaboration with Surabaya City Health Agency held a community service activity titled “Training on POCT (Point of Care Testing) Device Quality Control for Glucose POCT Users” on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. The event taking place at Graha Arya Satya Surabaya City Health Agency was attended by cadres from 63 community health centers in Surabaya.

Through these activities, FK UNAIR Clinical Pathology department promoted the importance of maintaining the quality of POCT, so the results are guaranteed. So, even though the public uses it outside the central laboratory, the results can still be trusted.

“The goal is that we want POCT devices in the community accurate even though they are not in the central laboratory, especially when they are used by public, the results are still reliable and guaranteed,” said Yessy Puspitasari, dr., Sp. PK., as the chairman of the event.

According to Yessy, the users of the POCT device are numerous, and especially now, the government is establishing elderly posts in each neighborhood (RW). It inspired FK UNAIR Clinical Pathology Department to provide training on how to control the quality of POCT devices while providing knowledge about diabetes.

“There are elderly posts in neighborhoods (RW); at this time they are using POCT devices. From there, I would like to hold community service on how to control the quality of POCT device for users, ” she continued.

The event was divided into two sessions. In the first session, Munawaroh Fitria, dr., Sp. PK from the staff of the Clinical Pathology Department FK UNAIR gave presentation about diabetes mellitus. In the second session, Yessy Puspitasari, dr., Sp. PK., trained the participants on how to do quality control on POCT devices.

Previously, there were also pre-test and post-test, discussions and question and answer session, and blood glucose screening.

Yessy hoped that the community would be able to recognize the symptoms of diabetes before it is too late and know the importance of maintaining the quality of POCT device. “What is expected from this training is, first, so that the community cadres know the symptoms of diabetes. So it is not too late to check. Secondly, the community must know that the glucose POCT device quality, especially for diabetics, must be maintained, “she concluded.
