Director General of Defense Strength Visits UNAIR Institute of Tropical Disease

UNAIR NEWS – As one of the oldest universities with Faculty of Medicine (FK) in Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga pays great attention to the world of health. It can be seen from various institutions specifically dealing with health issues in UNAIR.. One of them is Institute of Tropical Disease at Campus C UNAIR.

“The Institute of Tropical Diseases Universitas Airlangga is an institution for the development and management of tropical disease research which involves several doctors and professors from several faculties at Universitas Airlangga. And, cooperation with several universities abroad, “said the Head of UNAIR Institute of Tropical Disease, Prof. Maria Lucia Inge Lusida, dr., M.Kes., Ph.D., SpMK.

The institute conducts various innovations and research. One of them is through collaboration with various parties. Directorate General of Defense Power, Ministry of Defense the Republic of Indonesia made a visit to UNAIR Institute of Tropical Diseases on Thursday, April 9, 2019. TNI First Admiral, dr. Arie Zakaria, SpOT, FICS was welcomed in UNAIR ITD Main Meeting Room.

In his remarks, dr. Arie Zakaria, SpOT, FICS, conveyed some information about health, including his experience in handling various cases of disease outbreaks in various countries. He also expressed the importance of integration and collaboration in the field of health between military and civil institutions by optimizing human resources in Indonesia.

“In the future, we expect military collaboration with civilians in the field of research, both in terms of basic research, applied research, research on drugs and other kinds. That’s what we want. Because, we cannot do it by ourselves, our human resources are not enough, our budget is also limited, ” told TNI First Admiral Dr. Arie Zakaria, SpOT, FICS to UNAIR NEWS.

After holding a meeting with several study groups, the delegates of Directorate General of Defense Strength also inspected several laboratories in ITD UNAIR, such as entomology, malaria and dengue laboratories. From this visit, hopefully good collaboration between the military and civil institutions in health sector will be established in the future. (*)
