KRA Group Invites UNAIR Researcher to Speak about National Politics in Malaysia

UNAIR NEWS – The quality of researchers and experts of Universitas Airlangga should not be doubted. Many of its experts’ ideas and views are referred for policies and insights by the people of Indonesia, even the world.

This time, Dr. Suko Widodo, M.Si., UNAIR Political Communication expert had the opportunity to present various matters regarding the national political map in Malaysia on Tuesday, March 19. Invited by KRA Group, Suko spoke before 16 journalists from various countries in Southeast Asia.

In his presentation, Suko explained that in political contest in Indonesia, the behavior of millennials gives color and influence in determining or choosing political figures to represent them in parliament.

“In this case, millennials determine political battle. Moreover, in the use of social media as a source of information in choosing the person who will be their representatives,” Suko explained.

Not only that, on this occasion, Suko also conveyed about the political prospects of millennials in the future. According to him, millennials which are adept in technology will have the power to determine the direction national politics.

“Besides presenting in the forum, I was also invited for an interview at one of the Malaysian television studios based in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

Not only giving exposure, on that occasion, KRA Group also offered possibility for collaborative research and media studies with Universitas Airlangga and a number of institutions in Indonesia. That, for Suko, was a very good offer and hoped that the collaboration could happen soon.

Meanwhile, KRA Group Director of Strategy Amir Fareed Abdul Rahim said that he had received a lot of information about Suko’s research in looking at Indonesia’s future political prospects. Not only that, he also learned a lot about democratic political practices in Indonesia.

“We consider Suko is capable and understands about democracy and media in Indonesia. As one of the political communication academics, Suko’s analysis is an important reference for journalists in ASEAN, “he concluded.
